We currently have work planned at the following bothies. If interested in helping please email the contact by clicking on their name.
STRATHCHAILLEACH – 3rd to 10th May 2024
Details: Major workparty. To include constructing and fitting new front door (someone with joinery skills needed for this), new guttering (anyone with experience at using a hammer drill?), removal of old pointing and applying new lime mortar, digging drainage ditches.
Unfortunately we will not be able to provide catering at this workparty (other than group tea and biscuits) so all volunteers will need to be self sufficient – and this includes needing a tent. However, we may be able to assist in carrying your gear for the first couple of miles in to Sandwood Bay by vehicle – and we should hopefully have all the materials brought in beforehand, so you just need to bring yourself and your gear!
Lots of photo opportunities; amazing skyscapes and stunning coastal views.

SUILEAG – Monday 3rd to Friday 7th June
Details: Re-pointing an area of gable end and one of the walls, plus some repairs to the fire hearth, again concrete work. No skills required. We are looking for two full time equivalents for the week. It is self catering.
The bothy will remain open so the work party can stay in the bothy but there is some flat ground for camping. Obviously it is all weather dependent, fingers crossed!

THE LOOKOUT – Saturday 16th March 2024
Details: The Lookout on Rubha Hunish needs 2 new doors and these need to be carried in as the ground is too wet for the crofters tractor. It’s around a 2km walk. I am looking for around 4 volunteers to help carry the doors in from the car park near Shulista. The doors weigh around 30kg each.

Sleeping platforms and a cooking area will be built. A ceiling will come down. Roof beams will be made good. The roof will be cut into, and a stove and flue will go in. The hope is to finally ‘complete’ the bothy.

CAE AMOS
Details: Three work parties are planned for the Spring 2024:
First, a small work party will be carried out during the Welsh Area Spring meeting from 29th February to 4th March 2023. The space in the bothy will be extremely limited during these dates.
The main work party will be from 27th March to 8th April when the existing roof structure will be taken down and replaced with the new one. Due to the H&S and organisation of the work, the bothy will be closed during this period. We are looking for the volunteers for this workparty – please note that you need to bring your tent. Some catering will be provided such as basic breakfast and dinner, and teas & coffees.
The next workparty is planned for late May / early June, exact dates will be announced in April. This time we will finalise slating of the roof.
