If you are a lover of the great outdoors, you will almost certainly have come across one of the bothies that we maintain. Perhaps you have spent the night in one while visiting a remote area or simply used it to shelter from inclement weather. Whether you use bothies or not, supporting the MBA by becoming a member is a great way to help preserve these unique shelters for the future.

We receive no public subsidy; we rely on subscriptions from members to provide the main funding for our maintenance work. And as a member, you will have the opportunity to help our maintenance efforts directly by attending one of our frequent work parties.

One of the most important jobs in the Association is that of Maintenance Officer (MO). Each bothy in our care has one or more MOs who are responsible for checking the condition of the bothy and arranging routine maintenance. As a member, you will have the opportunity, if you wish, of taking on this important role.
